The Rate Comparison Report (April 15, 2008) prepared by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission compares all categories of ratepayers for all electric and gas public utilities. Section 308.1(b) of the Public Utility Code requires the Public Utility Commission to file the report with the Governor and the General Assembly on April 15 of each year so that a reasonably accurate comparison of rates can be made between similar ratepayers in different areas of the Commonwealth.
The Office of Consumer Advocate’s Electric Information page offers electric shopping guides and statistics, as well as pricing information. The Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate was established by the General Assembly in 1976 to represent the interests of Pennsylvania utility consumers before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), federal regulatory agencies, and state and federal courts.
The Energy Information Administration’s Electricity Statistics page provides official energy statistics from the U.S. Government, including individual state electricity profiles.
The Status of Electricity Restructuring by State Map prepared by the Energy Information Administration provides a snapshot of restructuring activities. More detailed information can be accessed by clicking on an individual state.
The Electric Industry at a Glance (November 2008) prepared by William Steinhurst, Ph.D., for the National Regulatory Research Institute provides basic information on the U.S. electric industry. Section I reviews the overall nature of the industry and of power production and use. Section II breaks down the industry into segments and discusses their recent and current status and organization. Section III covers regulatory jurisdiction, while Section IV identifies some of the critical issues facing the industry and its regulators.
